Monthly Maintenance Tips
Change Your Air Filters
This is a quick and easy way to help with the lifespan of your HVAC unit. Find out the size of your filter when you take ownership and order yourself a dozen immediately. That way you have them on hand, and then just set yourself a monthly calendar reminder to make the switch!
Check Your Smoke Alarms
Check your batteries every month to make sure it is working properly or test the alarm to make sure it is responding.
Clean your Dishwasher filter
Thanks to my college girlfriends and a girls weekend away, we now clean our dishwasher filter every month- I really didn’t know this was a thing! A periodic inspection and cleaning can help prevent a blockage and back up. If not cleaned regularly, you can get a stench and less clean dishes and in extreme cases can cause drainage and damage to the plumbing.
Clean Out Your Gutters
Grab your ladder and a helper/friend and check/clean your gutters. Leaves, branches, balls, debris- you name it- can get caught and clog the gotters. Simply remove everything to ensure no back up. Another option to avoid having to do this monthly, is having gutter guards installed.
Carolyn's Two Cents
Maintaining a home is a labor of love, that's for sure. If you mentally map out the tasks that need to be done each month of the year it will feel less overwhelming and you will feel satisfied with the results.
