Annual Maintenance Tips

HVAC (Heating and Cooling

Get your HVAC unit(s) serviced at least one a year, most even recommend both in the Fall and the Spring. Preventative maintenance helps you get ahead of major costs or breakdowns in peak seasons and helps your unit run more efficiently- which will also help with your energy bills too. We love C and A Heating and Cooling for our HVAC needs- and we have had several! Anthony and his dad are very professional, responsive, and all around nice people to work with.

Chimney and Fireplace

If you have a working wood burning fireplace you should have a sweep and visual inspection done each year. Oftentimes these other systems are neglected, but you should also have your gas furnace/heater, oil burning furnace, and gas fireplace checked too. Bottom line, you want to make sure they are operating efficiently and safely- blockage or crackage can make it unhealthy and hazardous to operate. When we bought our home, we did not get a Level 2 Chimney Inspection (which I highly recommend and wish we did because our liner was very old and compromised!) We still wanted to use our wood burning fireplace, so we installed a wood burning insert- we love it! We used Geoff from Burnell Fireplace and Chimney and couldn't’ have been happier with his disposition, honesty, work ethic and reliability.

Dryer Vent

To keep your Dryer working as efficiently as possible, you need to clean out your dryer vent at least every year. Cleaning this out prevents mold build up, lint back up, and internal mechanical issues with your machine. This is one of those tasks that you could opt to do yourself or hire a professional.

Flush Water Heater

I think this is commonly missed by most homeowners. It is important to flush your heater at least once a year to get rid of the sediment build up in the bottom of the tank. Good news is that you can do this yourself (do your own research, of course), or if you feel more comfortable a plumber can definitely help you out!
